NEWS -- NOTIZIE -- NOUVELLES -- SIEMPRE ALGO MAS

Hello.  There seems to be something going on every minute.  There was a wonderful presentation on the La Salette Lay Associate vocation in Moreno Valley, California on October 26.  There were ten people in attendance, listening to a wonderful teaching from Father Ronald Beauchemin, MS.  There was Father Maurice Cardinal, MS for whom so many of us have been praying.  He is a dauntless, zealous missionary who touches everyone's heart.  Father Maurice is the designated spiritual guide of the new community of Lay Associates growing from a seed in the far western reaches of the United States.  Father Beauchemin was the featured speaker.  After the presentation there was an open forum and the discussion was very animated.  During this moment, Father Maurice helped illumine the minds and hearts of the participants with his spiritual counsel.  This was a very uplifting experience for everyone.
          xxxxx/////xxxxx\\\\\xxxxx/////xxxxx\\\\\xxxxx
The day before this event, in the same parish, the La Salette Lay Associate delegate to the First International Gathering of Salettinian Laity gave a prolonged presentation on the guidance that had been offered by the "Professors" at the Gathering.  This was none other than Isabel M. Dion, the Hula Dancer who was Father Adilson's favorite dance partner during the recreations known as "Soirees".   Her presentation was to the parish staff which is composed of the employees of the parish.  It includes everyone from the Coordinators of Faith Formation to the Parish Secretary.  about 15 people all in all.  Despite the fact that this is a parish where La Salette Missionaries provide the spiritual guidance, this presentation was very enlightening for this group of people.  Of course, the climax of the morning was the famous Power Point Show, The Bridge vs The Fence by Father Adilson, translated into English..
That was in the morning.  That very evening, Isabel repeated the teaching to the small team of teachers who guide the very young children through the Liturgy of the Word for children at the 8:15 AM Mass on every Sunday.  This too was a very deeply moving experience for the members of this team.

Hola.

This has been a very exciting week.  We attended the fund raising picnic of the members and ex-members of St. Andres parish in Cabatuan, Isabela who now live in California and other places.  We received news from France, Brazil, the Philippines and the Island of Reunion, off the coast of Madagascar and also from the Great Southern State of Georgia in the USA.   Everyone seems to be doing very well.
Ile de la Reunion is where Yvonnique lives.  She is requesting prayers for the success of their organization.
Pierrot Zaessinger from Alsace Lorraine in the North of France has been very busy and very successful in putting out wonderful translations of the PowerPoint Presentation of the Bridge vs the Fence.  Pierrot has given it the wonderful title of "Invitation to Conversion."  Great find.
From Brazil we heard from Father Adilson, Father Isidro and Mario Apone.  All are doing well.  Father Adilson and Isidro are happy with the translations.
The Filipinos are in their provincial chapter and need our prayers.  Many of our readers are Filipinos, so, to them we say,  it is time to storm heaven and ask for continued success in the Mission confided to the province of Our Mother of Hope.
Ellen,in Georgia, USA,  is busy still trying to catch up with her work after arriving home from Europe.  She is also preparing a presentation to the staff to announce what happened at La Salette.

ITALIA [TORINO], FRANCIA, PHILIPPINES -- DRYING MARY'S TEARS

Mamma Maria Sconsolata
Antonella
October 15 was a very busy day in the La Salette Lay Associate  world.

The La Salette Lay Associates of Italy held their meeting in Torino, headed by Antonella Portinaro.  This is she in Melanie's house.
She is a dedicated and dynamic leader (Mother Superior/Abbess?) of the Lay Associates attached to the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette.  The communities with which she is involved are heavily dedicated to prayer in community.  They began with very few people, but have grown considerably over time.  This community is comprised of three groups, one in Torino, where Antonella resides and works, Roma and Napoli.  The picture above is a product of the community in Torino while the one that is seen below is from Roma.  The one above has been a meaningful depiction of the message of Our Lady at La Salette who warned us about not paying attention to the moral directions that her Son, Jesus had left for us to follow.  When this picture appears with others, it usually comes out as a strong favorite among viewers.  Before I insert this message in another language, let me include the message that Antonella herself sends to all of us, as of my receiving it last night.

Dear Paul,
Thanks for your nice words and for your prayers that I feel that accompany me forever!
Saturday 15 meeting with the lay of Turin went very well, the people present were very interested in everything I said and many have asked me to have the material I have presented, I now expect the meeting with the laity Rome and Naples on 26-27 November!!
It would be very happy if you write the news of Italy on your blog, for us it would be really nice!  [Much obliged, Antonella! ;-)]
We also send the video we did with the photos of Internacional meeting, the vision of this movie has concluded the meeting with the laity in Turin and all like it very much!
I remember you and always think of you with affection,
antonella

[Author's note:  I could not attach the movie due to the large size of the file.]

165th ANNIVERSARY OF LA SALETTE CELEBRATED

Celebration of the 165th Anniversary of the Apparition  of Our Lady of La Salette
 La Salette Alums and friends
St. CHRISTOPHER PARISH, Moreno Valley, CA

“MAKE THIS  MESSAGE KNOWN TO ALL MY PEOPLE”
“Wow, this is marvelous to see all the ethnic communities in the parish come together to celebrate  this spiritual event…first time ever,” commented by a parishioner.

Yes, on Sept. 17, all the ethnic communities of St Christopher parish in Moreno Valley came together to celebrate the 165th anniversary of the apparition of the Blessed Virgin Mary to two cowherds, Melanie and Maximin, in the French alps near the village of La Salette on September 19, 1846. The parish is administered by the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette.

LITURGY OPENS THE EVENT…
Native American bringing gifts to the altar
The Eucharist is very central in the message of our Lady of La Salette. As a prelude to the Liturgy, a video of the story of the apparition was played before the mass began.
The Event began with Mass in which members of the different ethnic communities of the parish participated. The first and second readings were read by two children in Tagalog (Filipiono language) and Spanish respectively. As this was being read, the English translation was projected on the screens in front of the faithful.
Fr. Arlan Intal, MS, delivered a very inspiring homily after which he and the other La Salette Fathers renewed their vows as religious and prayed the Consecration to our Lady of La Salette in front of the image of our Lady.
The prayers of the faithful were read in different languages by the Adults: English, Tagalog, Spanish, African (Sierra Leone, Africa), Slovak, Native American and French.) The English translations were also projected on the screen.
A group of young people who were dressed colorfully in their traditional ethnic costumes presented of the Gifts of Bread and Wine with liturgical movements.
DISPLAY OF  MARIAN IMAGES BY THE ETHNIC COMMUNITIES…

A very important part of the celebration was the display of Marian images brought by the different ethnic communities: A Japanese Madonna, African, Filipino, Hispanic, to name a few.  One of the most emotionally powerful images is this one.

of Salettinian Lay People at La Salette, France, Septembeer 1 - 10, 2011

ETHNIC FOODS AND ENTERTAINMENT…
The multicultural celebration of Eucharist and prayer continued with an international cuisine and entertainment provided by the ethnic communities. This was an occasion for getting to know one another as well as enjoying the ethnic dances and songs.
The drama of the Prodigal Son  presented by the Drama Ministry of the Parish concluded the  entertainment, so appropriately with the message of our Lady of
La Salette: Conversion and Reconciliation
We are sure that our Lady was looking down on us with glee on this day. Indeed this memorable celebration was an occasion to make our Lady’s message known to ALL her people at St. Christopher’s Church.

SAIBE QUE VOCÊ É MEMBRO DE UMA GRANDE FAMÍLIA

Small part of the "family", Cabatuan, Isabela, RP
Title is taken from the page dedicated to "Day 14" in the Lay Associates prayer booklet entitled, "Principios de Vida e de Espiritualidade dos Leigos Saletinos do Brasil."
Translated" "Principles of Life and Spirituality of Salettinian Laity of Brazil."
"Know that you are a member of a large family."

On October 15, 2011 many things were happening in the La Salette world.  One of them was in the Los Angeles, California, USA area.  It was a fund raiser for the Parish of San Andres, located in Cabatuan, Isabela, Philippines.  This small municipality is located on one of the major rivers in the Philippines, the Magat.  It is among the first parishes founded by the La Salette Missionaries in the territory that was given to them by bishop Theodulfo Domingo soon after the war.  [1949]  It was without a school until 1977.  The parish has since been turned over to the diocese of Ilagan, Isabela.  The school remains under the care and management of the La Salette Missionaries of Our Mother of Hope Province.  Yesterday's event was a a large success.  It was attended by at least 150 people, some of whom came from as far away as 1,200 kilometers.  This event, in great measure was organized and managed by La Salette educated and influenced people.  It is normal that the La Salette attitude is not the 100% driver in this group, but it is true that the values that brought these brothers and sisters in the faith together to help the parish in their home town are based on the spirituality of the message of Our Lady of La Salette.

As you have read here, recently, the annual reunion/retreat of La Salette Lay Associates in the Philippines and in France took place yesterday.  We were praying for them.  We await to hear from them so that we can spread the news.

Today, October 16, 2011 the vowed members of the La Salette Province of Our Mother of Hope are on the move from all the corners of the world headed toward Manila.  They are traveling from the USA, Burma and Australia.  The reason for this massive displacement is the occasion of the Provincial Chapter (Governing meeting).  For this reason, a member of the General Superior's office is also on the move.  This is because a representative from the main, central office, situated in Rome, Italy always presides over these important policy making meetings.  It is therefore time for us to keep these members of the family in our prayers.

PRAYERS -- PRIERES -- ORACIONES -- COMUNIDAD -- COMMUNAUTE -- UNITE

"I was enjoying this at first... then My imagination went wild. I miss my son.Soon it will be Christmas. He is missing a lot!" [Rosario]
The son is in drug rehab in the Philippines.  This family needs our prayers.

COMMUNITY -- ASSOCIATES -- COMUNIDAD -- ASOCIADOS

A short reflection based on a quote from Father Norman Butler, MS.  On the second day, wrapping up the reports from the small language groups, here is what he said:

My conclusion.  <A desire to be adult lay Christians sharing responsibility in the Church and sharing responsibility with the LS missionaries to be instruments of reconciliation.  It seems to me very important that we are talking about laity “helping Father” but we are talking about shared responsibility in the Church and the accomplishing of its work.  The clergy has to know this and be able to understand this desire and this willingness to share at the ministerial level.>
Based on this, I have been reflecting on the deep meaning of "shared responsibility."  It has brought me to the point where I am forced to delve into the essential difference between "association" and "community."  It has been and continues to be a challenging exercise both intellectual and emotional.  I am going to try to make it challenging for the reader as well.  I do not pretend that I am going to propose the final word, but I pray that the thoughts will be provoking, in a positive way.

ATTLEBORO SHRINE - A NEVER ENDING STORY

This story never ends.  It never ends because it is a story of remembering.  La Salette community people remember the words of Our Mother Mary, "Well, my children, make this known to all my people."  La Salette people also remember that these words are an echo of her Son's words to His disciples, "Go, therefore and make disciples of all the nations..." (MT 28, 19)  So that's what we do.  We carry the cross through the streets to make it visible to everyone.  To be concrete, here are some telling statistics from the Shrine dedicated to spreading the message of Our Lady of La Salette located in Attleboro, Massachusetts, USA.
For the year 2010 - 2011
Masses in front of 85,800 faithful in six (6) languages
Confessions of about 42,000 people in three languages
Healing services with sacrament for 15,000 people in three
                                                                        languages
Feeding the homeless -- 5,400 people
Retreats -- 3,000 youth; 4,000 adults
Much of all this and much more is made possible by an army of 1,000 volunteers.

"If you do not submit, I will be constrained to let go the arm of my Son."

Through many days now I have been thoughtful about this part of the message of Our Lady.  I thought of a number of biblical passages where the arm of God is referred to as being the instrument of the Divine Will. Sometimes it's for salvation, sometimes for retribution.  I think especially at the thought of Isaiah, "He saw that there was nobody, and he wondered why there was no intercessor. So He madde His own arm His mainstay, His own integrity his support... (Isaiah 59:16)
On the other hand, we find these words in the Magnificat "He has shown the power of His arm, He has routed the proud of heart..."(Luke 1, 51)
It is therefore clear that in the message that she gave us at La Salette, Our Mother gives us the view that what she tells us is not just a personal idea, entirely new. She speaks the language of Scripture. The more I think about it, the more deeply I feel this is a beneficial eschatological message. The more I think of it, the mpre deeply I am touched by the attached picture.  It is housed in the museum in the basilica of Our Lady of La Salette on the Holy Mountain.  When I saw it for the first time, I thought of Moses, Isaiah and Mary herself in her Magnificat.

I leave you with these simple reflections. I hope you will take time for further reflection and meditation on this theme at home.

NEWS AND COMMENTS + PRAYER REQUESTS

FROM THE MUSEUM AT THE SITE OF THE APPARITION
News first:
Isabel Dion, delegate from North America made a short 45 minute report to the Lay Associates of North America about the two weeks of prayer and learning that took place at the First International Gathering of Laity at La Salette in France.  Everyone listened intently.  At the end, many handshakes and pats on the shoulder expressed the satisfaction of the audience with the presentation.  Everyone present received a small token souvenir from the Holy Mountain.  The members of the Board of directors were given a CD containing all the important information that was put on the table during the Gathering.

Comment:
It is impossible for me to express in words the depth of the gratitude that I feel every time I am embraced, slapped on the back and treated with respect and politeness by the Missionaries of Our Lady of La Salette who know me.  Not only is their respect expressed toward me but toward my beloved spouse, Isabel.  All we can say is "Thank you."

Prayers:
Danny Newman, a young boy of 15 who is very sick.  Danny is the nephew of my brother-in-law, John Moriarty.  Let's intercede to our Mother Mary on his behalf.

The son of Rosario and Joe Manligot needs our prayers.  He is fighting the drug demons.  Rosario didn't give me his name.  The teen-age boy has been placed in the capable hands of one, Robert (Bob) Garon and his team of drug rehabilitation professionals in the Manila area of the Philippines.  Bob has spent the majority of his life helping young Filipino people to get out from under the influence of drug use.  Bob too, and his spouse and his team need our prayers and our support.  The Mangligot family has been by the side of the La Salette Missionaries for years.  They too need our prayer support.
When you pray for me, pray for Bob too, we are classmates.

Marcel Douillard (Brother Luc) who is in Silang, Cavite suffering from dementia.  Many of you who are reading this know Brother Luc.  He was one of the very first La Salette missionaries to reach the province of Isabela, Philippines.  He and his brother, Father Paul are remembered to this day as valiant and holy carriers of the Good News to the hard working population of the Cagayan Valley on Luzon Island.  Marcel is in Silang with so many of his fellow missionaries, and, in his case, his loving and devoted spouse Gina.  Please pray for this suffering family who still has an adult daughter who resides in the United States.  When you pray for Brother Luc and his family, please remember also to intercede for the La Salette Missionaries who never abandon those who serve as well as those who served.  If you seek a place to share your talent and your treasure, please think of the La Salette Missionaries. Hwag niyo nakalimutan sila, paki...

Father Maurice Cardinal, MS is doing well in his recovery.  He needs continued prayers so that the follow-up care given to him will be successful.  We will be visiting him in a day or two.

Finally:
There is a medical mission planned for Santiago, Isabela in January of 2012.  The professional in charge is Jessie Cristobal and she lives in Riverside, California.  If you are interested in joining her and her team for this very important mission, you can email me Puttss.dion@gmail.com and I can put you in touch with her for more details.

That's enough for now.  I'll be back.
Peace and joy to you all.

Sometimes it helps to introduce a communication with words that will make the mind grind a little bit and wonder what is meant by the introduction.  This blog has spent some time presenting new expressions of the apparition of Our Blessed Mother Mary at La Salette.  As we gathered for the Annual North American gathering of La Salette Lay Associates in North America, we came face to face with this creative silhouette.  I have been here often.  Never have I been moved by this silhouette.  Never, that is, until now.  I therefore present it to you as an object of admiration and a stimulus for prayer and reflection.
I present it in the spirit of the search for completeness in life.  Most of our lives are spent seeking out the true and full meaning of the realities that stimulate our curiosity.  The most intriguing and demanding of these realities are brought to us through the grace of faith that is given to us early in life.  We find ourselves delving deeper and deeper into it in order to stay allied with the Will of the Creator, His Son, the Savior and their Love, the Sanctifier.  In order to make this effort more productive, God permits us to experience on-going teachings that He puts before us through the inter-mediation of His Holy Mother.  We, La Salettes, live in the spirit of the last.  We live with God together with His Son's Mother.
This thought brings me to the echoing reflection of what Father Norman Butler said at the La Salette Lay Gathering in France at the beginning of the month.  We are here not because we want to encourage people to be better helpers for "Father" but because we want to remind the laity that they too have a vocation to the mission.  The presenters at the Annual  gathering of Lay Associates of North America reminded us of the Vocation of Association.  They reminded us of the words of Father Joseph Bachand, MS, Provincial Superior of Our Mother of the Americas Province, to wit, "We are called to embody the message of reconciliation."  Further down, Father Bachand, addressing the question of mutuality, was quoted, "Our Province in North America recently put together a vision statement.  In the middle if that statement there is the simple sentence, "  The entire day was one of solid teachings about the Lay Vocation to Association.  There were many reminders of the call to mutuality between the Laity and the Vowed Religious.  In simpler terms, and without the strong emphasis on the La Salette Mission, the day was an echo of the La Salette Experience on the Holy Mountain.
The closing few minutes focused on the process of defining our identity, personal and congregational.  The lead presenter hit it on the head when he talked about the call to Reconciliation expressing itself in the warm hospitality that suffuses itself in so many details of La Salette life.  I, of all people can attest to that.  I have said it often, and continue to do so.  It made me happy to see someone from the "outside" moved by it.  Thank you, Mother Mary.

I leave this page here.  I will put some extraneous thoughts on the page that follows this one.
